Luminescence Temperature Quenching in Mn <sup>2+</sup> Phosphors

Narrower band red and green emission in phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (wLEDs) can improve the efficacy color gamut lighting display applications. A promising luminescent ion is Mn2+ that have both narrowband (tetrahedral coordination) (octahedral emission. Unlike earlier applications of phosphors, temperature quenching important wLEDs. Insight into thermal behavior luminescence lacking. Here systematic research reported for a variety Mn2+-doped phosphors; huge variation T50, ranging from 50 K ZnTe to 1200 MgAl2O4, revealed. The value T50 shows positive correlation with bandgap host, but no full width half maximum (FWHM) band, indicating thermally activated photoionization, not crossover, operative mechanism. This confirmed by stimulated (TSL) measurements show rise TSL signal following photoexcitation at temperatures around providing evidence correlated generation free charge carriers. Based on these findings, as design rule obtained temperature-stable (high power) LEDs wide-bandgap host material required.
